Karnataka is celebrating a double triumph in the world of chess as two of its brightest talents, Pratitee Bordoloi and Akshaya Sathi, delivered stellar performances at the recently concluded 41st National Sub-Junior Chess Championship 2025 in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, clinching the Runner-up and Second Runner-Up positions respectively. Pratitee scored 9/11 points, while Akshaya secured 8.5/11.
Twelve-year-old Pratitee is among the very few players to win a sub-junior chess title at such a young age, following in the footsteps of GM Divya Deshmukh. She resides in Bengaluru and studies at Shishya BEML Public School, while Akshaya represents Uttara Kannada.
It is worth noting that Pratitee had earlier clinched the gold medal at the FIDE World Cup 2025 (Under-12 Girls) held in Batumi, Georgia, after an unbeaten run in the classical format. Her chess journey is decorated with multiple podium finishes across national and international events. She is currently ranked #1 among Indian girls in both classical and rapid formats.
While Pratitee dazzled internationally, Akshaya Sathi, 15, made headlines at home by becoming the first female winner of the Karnataka State Open Chess Championship at the Khannur State FIDE Rated Open in July 2025. Looking ahead, Pratitee is set to represent India at the upcoming Asian Youth Chess Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, while Akshaya aims to strengthen her international presence and pursue higher titles.
