Pratitee Bordoloi bagged the SILVER with 9.5/11 points , Aadya Gowda clinched BRONZE with 9/11 points, Shreya Rajesh scored 8.5/11 securing 6th rank, Aadya Ranganath scored 8/11 points securing 9th rank, Indusheetala N scored 8/11 points securing 12th rank. Leah Joseph scored 7.5/11 securing 16th rank, Anvitha Sathi scored 7.5/11 securing 20th rank in 37th MPL U11 National Chess Championship 2024 held at Hyderabad, Balayogi GMC Sports Indoor Stadium from Oct 4th to Oct 10th, 2024.

Team Karnataka has the maximum number of winners with Top 20 finish in U11 girls. That is indeed PURE Talent & KAR Girls DOMINATION in Nationals. Pratiee Bordoloi & Aadya Gowda definitely leading & inspiring the KAR team players with a top 2nd place and 3rd finish. Samaksh Ashok secured 9th rank, scoring 8.5/11, Abhinav Anand secured 20th rank scoring 8/11.

Samaksh Ashok is aged 10 years, grade 5 student of Kendriya Vidyalaya DRDO, Bangalore. Started learning chess from a very young age of 4.5 years. Has a FIDE Classical rating of 1787 and Rapid FIDE rating of 1620.He secured 9th rank, scoring 8.5/11 in 37th MPL U11 National Chess Championship 2024 He was 30th seeded and suffered only one loss with Ishaan Kandi, Telangana player and finished with a fantastic 9th place. Rest of the rounds Samaksh emerged undefeated.

Samaksh says “10th round with Samarth Jain (Haryana player) was very tough, as I wanted to convert this game for a win. It was a closed position where I had an open file but I couldn’t break through. Finally, I decided to do a king walk from kingside to queen side, and then to prepare a break a through in the king side. By this time, my opponent made a mistake while he also tried a king walk. I capitalized on this mistake and was able to control the open file, and could finally convert the drawish position to a win”.

Abhinav Anand is a promising young player is a 10-year-old Grade 5 student of National Public School, IndiraNagar Bangalore. Started learning chess at the age of 7 Years. Abhinav has achieved a peak classical FIDE rating of 1843, Peak Rapid FIDE rating of 1779, current Blitz FIDE rating of 1805. He secured 20th place and scored 8 /11 in 37th MPL U11 National Chess Championship 2024. Abhinav’s only losses were with Megh Parmar (Gujrat) and with Mehul Sondhi (Delhi) and rest of the rounds he remained undefeated.

Abhinav says few sentences about his challenging last round in U11 Nationals “I (played white) was pitted against the higher-rated Rahul Ramakrishnan (rated 1900) in a tense final round, ultimately securing a hard-fought draw. The game opened with the Reti Opening, characterized by 1. Nf3, which allowed White to maintain flexibility in pawn structure and piece development. Throughout the match, both players demonstrated strategic depth and tactical awareness. White maintained central control and developed pieces effectively, while Black sought counterplay through aggressive pawn moves. Key moments included critical exchanges and an active endgame where both sides maneuvered carefully. Despite opportunities for either player to claim victory, we ultimately settled for a draw.”

Karnataka’s Golden Girls Dominate in Under-11 Nationals

Pratitee Bordoloi, young promising, result-driven, talented player is a grade 6 student studying in BEML Public School, Bangalore. Started playing chess from 8 years and has attained WCM title in 2024. She secured SILVER and scored 9.5/11 in 37th MPL U11 National Chess Championship 2024 . She is the ONLY player in the tournament who remained undefeatable in all rounds This is Pratitee’s 4th National Title in her age category which she is bagging consecutively every year, a player to watch out for!
Simply amazing with consistency, hard work, determination and pure Talent. Her peak classical FIDE rating is 1947. Pratitee recollects her most challenging game “I was pitted (white) against Aradhya Das in the ninth round. Aradhya had six back-to-back wins until then, and her game quality was really good. Pratitee says, “In the opening, after Aradhya played Qb8 in the 17th move, I had an advantage because my pieces were very active. However, Aradhya held the position really well but eventually came under time pressure. After Rxc7, the Qxc7 was not very good as that gave me an advantage with Qxe4”.

Aadya Gowda, a talented chess player and a Grade 6 student at The Cambridge International School, Bangalore, began her chess journey at the age of 9 years. Her current FIDE ratings are 1699 (Classical) and 1656 (Rapid). She recently clinched the BRONZE medal at the 37th MPL U11 National Chess Championship 2024, scoring an impressive 9/11 points. This marks her second National title. Her only losses were against Divi Bijesh (Kerala) and Aaradhya Das (Tripura), with victories in all other rounds.
Aadya shared her thoughts on a challenging game in the U11 Nationals: “I (playing Black) faced Pooja Shree (White) in a French Defence, Steinitz Variation in the last round. I capitalized on her mistakes, particularly the blunder on move 16 (Qc2??), and gradually converted my advantage into a win. I also enjoy participating in open-category State tournaments, which are challenging for girls. I constantly strive to learn new playing ideas, attacking methods, and strategies in these open events.”

Shreya Rajesh says “Her 8th round loss with Aahna Gulati was challenging, where it was a close call for the majority of the game, but succumbed to time pressure at the end.

She secured the 12th position in 37th MPL U11 National Chess Championship 2024 scoring 8/11.Starting the first half of the National tournament with bad losses didn’t deter Indusheetala spirit. Initially she lost to players Arushi Dinesh (Tamil Nadu), Aishani Duseja (Punjab) & Lakshita Sanjeev Chaudhary (Uttarakhand). After that unexpected loss with Aishani Duseja which was the turning point for her, she fought rest of the rounds with resilience and a great fighting spirit which enabled her a top 12 finish.

Indusheetala N says few sentences about her challenging game in U11 Nationals “I (played white) was pitted with Aaradhya Upadhyay. Shé made an opening mistake and I got into a better Middle Game position. Later on, was able to convert it to a smooth win in the latter part of the game. The last round playing under pressure was very challenging and it was my only route to a TOP finish”.

Leah losses were with Dishita Dey (Jharkhand), 1st Runner up Pratitee Bordoloi (Karnataka) and with Thashvi M (Tamil Nadu) players. Rest of the rounds she emerged victorious.

Leah shares few sentences about her challenging game in U11 Nationals which was with Dishita Dey “I was playing as black and lost the game from a winning position due to time pressure which caused me to make mistakes in the end. In the 10th move, I had played BC5?! which was a bit dubious because the bishop should have instead been used to stop any possible attack that can be done to black’s kingdom. Later my opponent allowed me to gain some advantage on the queenside which I took but was unable to convert it “.

I should have played 21. Qf5! which was better for me but I missed it and at the end the game was drawn. I also equally enjoy participating in open-category State tournaments, which are challenging for girls. I constantly strive to learn new playing ideas, attacking methods, and strategies in these open events.”
