Karnataka Kids Shine in Commonwealth Chess Championship in Sri Lanka

Karnataka Kids had a remarkable performance at the recently concluded Commonwealth Chess tournament in Sri Lanka, winning 5 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze medals.

Pratitee Bordoloi (2 Gold, 1 Silver): Pratitee, a student of Shishya BEML Public School, emerged victorious with 7.5/9 points in the Under 12 Girls category of the Commonwealth Classical Chess tournament. This is her second consecutive gold medal in this category, having won the same event at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in Melaka, Malaysia in February 2024 (organized for last year).

In addition to the classical gold, Pratitee also won the gold medal in the Rapid U12 Girls category, scoring 6/7 points. However, in the Blitz category, she had to settle for a silver medal, despite scoring the same number of points (8/9) as the winner, due to a tie-break decision.

Nakshatra Gumudavelly (2 Gold): Nakshatra, a student of Sishu Griha Junior School, remained unbeaten (9/9) in the Blitz format of the U8 Girls category to win the gold medal. She also clinched the gold medal in the Rapid format with a score of 6.5/7. However, in the classical format, despite picking up momentum in the last few rounds, she finished sixth due to an unexpected defeat in the second round.

Siddhant Poonja (1 Gold, 1 Bronze): Siddhant, a student of Sindhi High School, Hebbal, scored 8.5/9 points in the U12 Blitz to secure the gold medal. However, he had to settle for a bronze in the Classical format with a score of 6/9 points.

Aadya Ranganath and Siddhi Rao (1 Silver each): Aadya, a student of Vidya Niketan Hebbal, settled for a silver medal in the U12 Girls Rapid format, scoring the same number of points as Pratitee (6/7) but finishing second based on the tie-break. Similarly, Siddhi, a student of Sri Kumaran Public School, claimed a silver medal in the classical format by winning her decisive ninth-round game.
