
Karnataka State U 13 Chess championship in Hassan: Yuvanesh and Shreya Rajesh emerge champions
Hassan, Karnataka – In an impressive display of youthful chess talent, the Karnataka State Under 13 Open & Girls Chess Championship, conducted in Hassan from 25–27 July, ended with four standout performers earning the right to represent Karnataka in the India National Under 13 Chess Championship. Yuvanesh A emerged the Open section with 8/9, while Abhinav Anand secured the runner up spot with 7.5/9. In the Girls’ section, Shreya Rajesh and Anvita Sathi, scored 8 and 7.5 out of 9 and topped the leaderboard and sealed Karnataka’s entries to the national championship.
The three day Karnataka State Under 13 Open & Girls Chess Championship, organized by the Hassan district chess association at the Haranahalli Ramaswamy Institute of Higher education under the aegis of Karnataka State Chess association (KSCA) from July 25 to 27, concluded in spirited fashion as the state’s best young talents earned their berths to the upcoming India National Under 13 Chess Championship. The tournament followed a Swiss system format, nine rounds for the Open group and the Girls’ category, with FIDE rating status, attracting around 350 participants across both sections
Winners to Represent Karnataka at Nationals
Open Category:
- Champion – Yuvanesh A from Christ school ICSE, Bangalore Urban scored 8 out of 9 points
- Runner up – Abhinav Anand from NPS Indira Nagar, Bangalore Urban scored 7.5 out of 9 points and remained unbeaten in the tournament.
Girls Category:
- Champion – Shreya Rajesh from DPS East, Bangalore Urban scored 8 out of 9 points and remained unbeaten in the tournament
- Runner up – Anvita Sathi from Atomic Energy Central school, Kaiga, Uttara Kannada scored 7.5 out of 9 points
