
In a remarkable display of grit and composure, the Karnataka Girls Under-14 Chess Team secured the Bronze Medal at the 69th SGFI National School Games, held in Ranchi, Jharkhand. This podium finish marks a proud milestone for Karnataka, coming after more than a decade since the state last achieved a medal in this category.
Organised under the banner of the School Games Federation of India, the prestigious national championship brought together the strongest teams from across the country. The four-day event was played in the classical time format, testing not only the players’ technical depth but also their stamina and mental endurance.
Competing against formidable teams such as CBSE, CISCE, and Andhra Pradesh, the Karnataka girls showcased exceptional determination and team spirit. They adapted admirably to Ranchi’s cold weather conditions, maintaining focus and consistency throughout the tournament.
The team finished behind only Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Notably, Karnataka and Maharashtra were tied on points, with Maharashtra edging ahead on tie-break scores. Despite this narrow margin, Karnataka’s performance stood out for its resilience and strategic discipline.
