26-year old M.S.Thejkumar of Karnataka obtained his second Grandmaster norm. He had got his first Grandmaster norm at the Commonwealth Chess Championship two months ago at Delhi.

| State Under 9 Chess Championship 2008 |
State under 9 Championship concluded here at Bangalore on 6th April, 2008. The first tournament organized by Bangalore District Chess Association after the restructing the organization, was successful in all respects.
At the end of final day Arjun Roshnik Bharath of Bangalore and Tulasi M. of Mysore emerged as champions in the State Under 9 Chess Championship. Arjun scored nine points out of nine rounds. In the last round he defeated Yashaskara of Mysore. Tulasi scored over Aditi HK of Mangalore and bagged six points out of six rounds.

Prakrit Kidzone in association with United Karnataka Chess Association conducted the Inter School Chess Tournament on 16 th Feb 2008 at Chairman's Club, Sahakara nagar, Bangalore. The Tournament was held for 5 age groups i.e. under-7, under-9, under-11, under-13, under-15 years. There were more than 200 participants!!!!.

The games were organised by National Geographic Channel as a part of their TV program My Brilliant Brain, intending to show the world about brilliant minds in India and the world. Susan Polgar will be ambassodoring the concept that brilliant minds are not just born, but can be made by hard work. To put it in her own words, "Behind an acheiver there is 99% sweat and 1% Talent ".

The United Karnataka Chess Association was formed in February 2006 with the aim of developing chess talent in Karnataka and giving the top talent in the state a chance to improve and compete at a national and international level. The UKCA has been granted affiliation to the AICF (All India Chess Federation) and is the authorized body in the state of Karnataka to conduct state level selections and championships.
Our mission is to bring the districts in Karnataka together and we have already achieved significant progress towards this goal. |
