|
26-year old M.S.Thejkumar of Karnataka obtained his second Grandmaster norm. He had got his first Grandmaster norm at the Commonwealth Chess Championship two months ago at Delhi.

| Innovators Chess Academy will be conducting the 64th Square Semi Classical Chess Tournament for Children and Open Categories at the State Youth Centre on May 10th and 11th respectively. All players born on or after 1-1-1992 may participate in the Children's Sections. Players born before 1-1-1992 would be eligible to take part in the Open Section. The Children's Section will be held in 3 different Categories - Under 8, Under 12 and Under 16. | State Under 9 Chess Championship 2008 |
State under 9 Championship concluded here at Bangalore on 6th April, 2008. The first tournament organized by Bangalore District Chess Association after the restructing the organization, was successful in all respects.
At the end of final day Arjun Roshnik Bharath of Bangalore and Tulasi M. of Mysore emerged as champions in the State Under 9 Chess Championship. Arjun scored nine points out of nine rounds. In the last round he defeated Yashaskara of Mysore. Tulasi scored over Aditi HK of Mangalore and bagged six points out of six rounds.

Roots Sports in association with the United Karnataka Chess Association is organizing first edition of the Corporate Chess Challenge on March 22 nd and 23 rd , 2008. The tournament will be held in two event categories - Individual and Team Championship.

| Prakrit Kidzone Inter School Chess Tournament |
Prakrit Kidzone in association with United Karnataka Chess Association conducted the Inter School Chess Tournament on 16 th Feb 2008 at Chairman's Club, Sahakara nagar, Bangalore. The Tournament was held for 5 age groups i.e. under-7, under-9, under-11, under-13, under-15 years. There were more than 200 participants!!!!.

We thank all parents and players for making the chess tournaments so much successful in Bangalore, in the recent months. You may recall Rajanna Memorial which also attracted more than 250 entries. Keep it up, so that very soon we will have many GMs and IMs from Karnataka. One is already on the road - our beloved M.S.Thejkumar. M.Satvik and Nihal Manjunath of Karnataka got the Silver medals in Under 9 and Under 13 Catagories of the Asian School Chess Championship concluded at Srilanka. Satvik of Karnataka and Nubair from Maharashtra formed the Indian Team and obtained the Team Gold in the U- 9 category for India.

World's First Woman Grand Master Susan Polgar gave a simultaneous chess exhibition with 20 Bangalore players today at Golf Club, Bangalore. The games were organised by National Geographic Channel as a part of their TV program My Brilliant Brain, intending to show the world about brilliant minds in India and the world. Susan Polgar will be ambassodoring the concept that brilliant minds are not just born, but can be made by hard work. To put it in her own words, "Behind an acheiver there is 99% sweat and 1% Talent ".

The United Karnataka Chess Association was formed in February 2006 with the aim of developing chess talent in Karnataka and giving the top talent in the state a chance to improve and compete at a national and international level. The UKCA has been granted affiliation to the AICF (All India Chess Federation) and is the authorized body in the state of Karnataka to conduct state level selections and championships.
Our mission is to bring the districts in Karnataka together and we have already achieved significant progress towards this goal. |
