Nationals. Karnataka Kids Pranav G Reddy and Vishal

Championships 2009
The Indian team consisting of Bhakti Kulkarni, Arjun Bharat of
Karnataka, Ivana Furtado, Riddhi Zante, Riya Savant won the
Gold in the world schools team championship beating out 30
other teams including some very strong competition from Russia,
Azerbaijan and China
In the Individual Championships Arjun

Kerala Fide Open Tournaments
In the recently concluded FIDE Open tournaments in
Thodupuzha, Idukki and Kodungallur, Trichur, Karnataka
players made their presence felt by a significant representation
and a good number of players starting of with their provisional
Rating by upsetting rated players.
The group was led by Gahan
MG who finished Third in Kodungallur, Trichur which had
11 International Masters and a Grand Master Magesh Chandran.
At Six year and Nine Months young Vasishta is on course to
become a Rated Player made multiple upsets over
rated players won the Under 7 and Under 8 age category prizes in
both the tournaments.
Asian Cities Championship
Team Bangalore representing Karnataka in the Asian
Cities Championship won the Silver Medal in Asian
Cities Championship held at Lebanon to add to their National
Championship Title

another Gold in Under 15 age Category in Srilanka Open

Emerged as the Champion of the well contested Ramakrishna Memorial
Rapid Tournament. The Tournament had around 190 participants with
around 30 of them with FIDE rating. The scores of the opponents
decided the First and Second place of the tournament shows the
intensity of the tournament in which Arvind Shastry secured

Goutham plays Vishy Anand after winning Zonal championship
The zonal level Chess championship of NIIT Mind Game Acadamy was held at Channai on 12th jan 2009. The zone comprises Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu and Andra Pradesh. S Goutham of Geethanjali Vidyalaya, Bangalore emerged as the champion and also had the previlage to play with World Champion Vishwanathan Anand at the event.
National Under 7 All India 5th for Ashwin J
The 22nd National Under 7 boys and girls Chess championship was held at Nagpur from 31st December 2008 to 7th Jan 2009. 157 boys and 78 girls from all over India participated in the championship. Karnataka's boys performed well and 4 players secured position in the top 20. Ashwin J, a 2nd standard student of Atomic Energy Central School, Mysore, scored 8.5 points and secured 5th position. Shet Prajwal P of Tumkur, Pranav G Reddy and Vasishta S from Bangalore secured the 15th, 16th and 20th positions respectively.
In girls section, K M Swathi Bhat secured 10th place.

Aditya Udeshi of Maharashtra bagged the Under 15 National Boys Chess Championship title when he defeated G.Akash of Tamil Nadu by securing 9.0 Points and on better Progressive score. Second place was secured by Priyadarshan K of Tamil Nadu with 9.0 Points when he defeated the over night leader Girish Koushik of Karnataka, who was placed third.
In Girls section Bharathi R of Tamil Nadu got the First place when she drew with Sukanya Dutta of WB with 8.5 Points. The second and third places were taken up by Pujan Rucha and Gagare Shalmali of Maharashtra.

Under 11 National Chess Championship 2008 for Boys and Girls started at Ahmadabad from 23.08.2008. Girish Koushik of Karnataka proves once again that he his our most promising young player by winning Under 11 Nationals with a round to spare. He made 10 out of 11 points with an unbeaten record.

This was a fantastic achievement on the part of Priyadarshini. Shalon Pais of Mangalore had a good run in the tournament but finished 23rd. Meghana TC also scored 6.0 points. Overall our boys also gave good performance, especially Amith N.Mahesh of Shimoga had a dream run against the rated players in the beginning of the tournament by scoring 2.5 points out 5 games against the rated players. Pranav and Shabdhik Verma scored 6.5 points. Naren Kumar and Goutham scored 5.5 points. Mayank Jain Scored 4.5 Points.
Karnataka's new world champion - Arjun Bharat
Nine year old Arjun Roshik Bharat of Trio World school, Bangalore became
Karnataka's newest world champion when he won the 4th World Schools
Championship title in the Under 9 category. He will also be awarded
the title of Candidate Master which is given to world champions and to
chess players with a rating 2200 or above.
Arjun's perfect score of 9 points also allowed the Indian Under 9 trio
consisting of Arjun, Anirudh Bhat and Jerome Ebenezer to take the
Under 9 team gold. In all India won 11 medals including 4 golds. Among the Karnataka
players, Pranav Reddy of Bangalore got the 8th position in the Under 7
category with 5 points from 9 rounds. Nihal Manjunath of Mangalore
helped his team to a silver medal in the Under 13 category.
In the 9 round swiss league tournament held in Singapore from July 22-July 30th, top seeded Arjun won all the 9 rounds securing the title. In the 4th round he defeated arch rival Derek Lim of Singapore and in the 5th round, he beat fellow Indian Anirudh Bhat from Goa. He followed that up with victories over an Indonesian player and other Singapore players.

The United Karnataka Chess Association was formed in February 2006 with the aim of developing chess talent in Karnataka and giving the top talent in the state a chance to improve and compete at a national and international level. The UKCA has been granted affiliation to the AICF (All India Chess Federation) and is the authorized body in the state of Karnataka to conduct state level selections and championships.
Our mission is to bring the districts in Karnataka together and we have already achieved significant progress towards this goal.
