Kangaroo Kids Inter School Chess Tournament

Kangaroo Kids School conducted the first Inter School Chess Tournament for Children from LKG to 7th Standard on Sunday 30th September 2007 at Indira Nagar. The tournament was conducted under the able hands of Mr.Sushrutha Reddy, one of our Joint Secretary. Parents appreciated both the school and Mr.Reddy for the well organised inter school chess tournament. We give below the report sent by Mr.Sushrutha Reddy.

S.Vasishta of Venkat International Public School, L.S.Prabhanjan (Prarthana School) and Sreeniketh (Vivekananda School) won the Under 7, Under-9 and Under-12 categories of the Kangaroo Kids Inter School Chess Tournament held at the school premises here at Indiranagar.

All the three boys tallied perfect scores in their respective sections. Sreeniketh won the Under 12 title with a score of 5 points out of a possible 5. Ajith (Cambridge Public School) and Abhijith S B (Delhi Public School South) came second and third with 4 and 3 points respectively. The unlucky participant to miss out on the merit list was Rhea of Vidya Shilp Academy.

While the hot favorite L.S.Prabhanjan of Prarthana School scored a perfect 5 points out of 5 rounds to win the Under 9 Category, the Under 7 Category was bagged by S.Vasishta who scored 4 out of 4.

Both Akash of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Malleswaram and Arjun Govind of Vidya Shilp Academy tied for the second prize with 4 points apiece. However, the former was adjudged as second on account of a better progressive score.

In the Under 7 category, top seed and favourite S.Vasishta lived upto his billing by winning the first place. The second and third placings were won by Pranav G (Delhi Public School South) and Ojasi Gopikrishna. Although Pranav lost to Ojasi in the penultimate round, he tallied 3 points, half a point more than the young girl who is in UKG at Air Force School. The unlucky player to miss out on a placing in this category was Yash Panjwani who scored the same points as Ojasi ( 2.5), but missed due to an inferior tie break score.

In the Under 9 Section, (2 nd to 4 th standards), Shishugriha School comprising of Vignesh, Saket Bekal and Rohan Shah won the Winners Trophy for the Best School Team. They tallied 8 points. The Runner Up Trophy went to Vidya Shilp Academy(Aditya Hrydai and Arjun Govind) who tallied 7.5 points.

In the Under 12 Section (5 th to 7 th standards), Vidya Shilp Academy(Rhea, Rajul Jain and Yamini Mahadev Gowda) were given away the Best School Team award. They tallied 6.5 points. Vivekananda School won the Runner Up with their only participant, Sreeniketh accounting for a total of 5 points.
